Default Jimmy Briand

Can I just nominate this kid for striker of the game? He didn't come in cheap in the third season, at 15 million + 10 million over 24 months, but he's been immense. Started 26 games, came on as a sub in 3, has scored 29 goals, 9 assists, 9 MoM awards. And it's only 17th of January.

I haven't seen many people talking about him, so thought I'd bring him up. If you can get him, do it!

He was good on previous versions, but on this one he moved to AC in the 1st season, and was on 125k PW, he got unhappy and i could have signed him for 7m, but my scouts said he would only be 'a good perm div striker' so that doubly put me off considering that i was going to be paying him 100k PW. in the end i didnt sign him

I managed to sign him for 14.5M in my game with PSV. He was that good that he didn't even needed any adeption and it showed in his stats. 6 matches, 7 goals and 4 assists.

Signed on my network game for £9m in the second season, already beating Torres for goals upfront

He looked ace on my old game, playing for Chelsea. I tried to sign him but his wage demands were ridiculous. So I waited to start a new game and I have signed him for Villarreal. He has scored 2 in 2 so far!

He's the only striker I've had on FM08 so far that averaged at least one goal a game. In an entire season at PSG, he only didn't score in three matches. The guy is a beast, he's so much better than his stats would suggest. And his stats aren't too shabby either.

I completely agree that he is a superstar - definately better than his stats.

Problem is, at the moment he's droughting on goals (same as Torres - possibly a tactical issue with pacey strikers?) compared to Kerlon (who's on 10 by october).

Look at his ratings in depth after the match. Is he making shots but blasting them over? Or is he just making few shots?

He definately gets into position, just tends to hit it at the keeper. He uses the same creative freedom setting as Kerlon/Kuyt, yet they get a higher on target:goal ratio than Briand/Torres.

Looking to sign him in the second season for my Man City team, I hope he and Obafemi Martins could strike up a decent partnership.

Depends how much he costs though

And his attacking mentality? I've found that lowering it to the highest 'normal' setting sometimes does the trick. I know, it doesn't make sense.

They were both the same on 2 above the highest normal setting...

Really strange. I've had him before and he scored bucket loads, then again, same with Torres. There must be something wrong in the midfield or something, really strange.

Hardly fair, you've given him the equivalent of 1.3 games...

Give the lad a run in the first team, man. How can you judge someone on a few measly sub-appearances?

Briand and Aguero. It's hard to drop Rooney, but Aguero is a better AM/FC and Briand gives you a better out and out pacey-striker option.

does that mean i have to sell rooney?

at first i only had huntelaar, rooney and tevez...
now i have so many options... but really i'd rather have them on my team. arsenal was going for aguero and newcastle for briand.
so this is how they will play.

Aguero-Huntelaar (EPL & CL)
Tevez-Rooney (EPL & LC)
Rooney - Briand (FA)
since Briand is still young, he'll need getting used to the league.

Just put in the guys that perform. And I still think you have too many top-class strikers. I've found that having more than 3 or 4 is not a good thing.

I'd definately keep Rooney - Just would rotate him. Tevez/Huntelaar - I'd sell. Beef up your squad in other areas with the money, and spend £5m on youngsters. Ideally, you could have Briand/Aguero/Rooney, and two U19 reserve strikers for LC, FA, easy euro games etc.

For me its only 2 options for Briand lop it over the bar or kick it straight at the keep.

I bought him for 12m over 1 year ago and if somebody offered me that id bite there hand off

3 looped over the bar

you should probably wait.... you might change your mind after you see Briand play IRL, since he got named by Domenech for France's squad.
but then again... it could be your tactics for Briand.

I'm using a lone striker in my tactics, has anyone used this guy sucessfully as an AMC with a farrow to ST position? I can pick him up for £10m and given how good people say he is this could be a bargain for me. Looking over his stats in my game he has really high season averages, tend to be around 7.50 for 5 seasons, but he's not getting anywhere near the goals scored that others are getting. In my game he's at Stade Rennais FC, gets about 1 goal every 2 or 3 games.

So, back to the question, anyone had sucess with this guy as an AMC or he is FAR better in a FC position?

he plays better in an FC position...
though i've had him playing in FC(L) with a barrow down to MC/AMC before.
he passes more to the FC and is quick on the break. the only downside is that he does not score regularly. he has scored more ever since i rotated him to the FC role.

I'm here to join the Jimmy Briand love.

After hearing about all this praise I signed him for Juventus, in the four games of the season so far he has six goals in three starts.

Not bad for £7.5 million

Maybe a stoopid question, but how do you get the best out of Braind?

Im plaiying 1 striker and in 5 starts hes only scored 1 goal.

Any set instructions for using him?

Its 1:51am here, I have been up since 7am this morning. Unless I am missing an obviously clear joke, can you explain the reasoning behind this statement?

Buy Andre-Pierre Gignac and Jimmy Briand, these lads were born to play together, they complement each other so well. First and second top scorers last season Ligue 1.
